CHARACTERS PLAYED: None
CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Ryomen Sukuna
CANON: Jujutsu Kaisen
CANON REFERENCE: link to Sukuna's JJK wiki article
CANON POINT: Just prior to the Shibuya arc (aka, before everything went insane)
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: He's a cursed sorcerer from the Heian era, estimated to be around 1000 years old.
APPEARANCE: Internally, an ojisan, externally, a cryptid beefcake. For convenience's sake, he'll have his regular/human body back (the one that he 'wears' in his Domain; he looks like an older, freakier version of Yuji Itadori— we're not too sure why they look alike even in Sukuna's own domain, but there's a rumour that they share a bloodline...)

He dresses in kimono most of the time, particularly when he's in his 'own form', so he won't be too jarring a sight for the resident youkai. His kimono is a women's kimono as he's used to needing extra room for his four arms (lmao he's completely cool with this apparently... he's secure in his masculinity enough to wear a titty kimono!)
CONTRACT PAYMENT: The rest of his fingers are to be returned to him as payment, also he'd probably like to keep this fresh human body that he's got for the time being (until he can get back to his giant hulk-out OP form).

QUESTIONNAIRE: Choose four questions from the list above and answer each either as an IN CHARACTER or an OOC explanation. Write thoroughly how your character would respond. There is no word count, minimum, or maximum for these responses. Make sure the questions are addressed and answered thoroughly and give a complete idea of the response.

1. How important is loyalty to you? What does it take to earn your loyalty? What extents are you willing to go through to maintain loyalty, and respect the loyalty others might have invested in you?

Loyalty is extremely important to Sukuna, though he would likely not offer it back to the same degree that he expects it from others. I think the main thing with him would be that to earn his loyalty, you would have to earn his respect by being of use to him in some way. The one person in canon that we see he has a certain amount of loyalty to (and who has immense, blind loyalty to him) is his servant, Uraume. Uraume was his cook when Sukuna was human, and in return for this, he granted Uraume the same immortality as he granted himself.

He's self-serving and pragmatic, so he would not go all that far to maintain loyalty, unless it was for someone so important to him that they would derail his usual self-interest. We don't know clear details on Sukuna's past in this regard, however, and considering what he has done in order to make himself powerful, there is a popular theory that it is not just due to a villainous lust for power. If this is the case, then he was once willing to sacrifice his humanity and his physical body to protect his village (this is actually along the lines of the original story of Ryomen Sukuna, but the author has not aligned them to this point yet, so as it stands, this is theory only).

He does, however, show that he respects the loyalty that people have invested in him. To a selfish degree, more than an honourable one; he loves to be loved— though flattery seems to do nothing for him (he’s not interested in anything that Jogo has to say to fluff his ego in the Shibuya arc, and he treats everyone who addresses him with disdain).

2. How do you define "success"? What is something you're ambitious about?

Sukuna would define success as living up to one’s own strengths. He puts a lot of emphasis on what it is to be strong, but he seems to really covet the innate abilities of each individual, rather than expecting them to live up to some greater ideal of what he views as success. This, in the manga, is of course re: people’s cursed technique abilities (Megumi/Jogo etc), but it could be extended to any sort of mundane context and/or talent that he sees in someone.

For him, to be successful, a person would have to reach the height of their own personal talents and ambitions.

With regard to himself, this is very much the same— he just happens to have very lofty goals. At this point, success for Sukuna would be to essentially (from what we know in the manga) take over once again, reinstate himself as the emperor of Japan (it’s unclear what he was exactly, but only that he had a reign of terror over the Jujutsu world). His ambition is to rule.

3. What is your favourite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?

Food… he’s absolutely a foodie, and his love of indulgence in this is written into even the names of his cursed techniques. He gave his chef immortality because he could not do without them, and there have been hints that he’s an accomplished chef in his own right (is this gap moe or what). He’s quite self-contained, though, so he probably wouldn’t put off what he believed he had to do in order to indulge, though I’m sure he’s very open to diversions (he’s very chill about time— he has a lot of it, after all, being immortal).

Sukuna does whatever he wants to do, when he wants to do it— of course, he would also only keep to what served him best in his ambitions, but he’s definitely the type of man who wants to laze around and indulge and eat.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that he seems to have a penchant for pretty faces. His interest in Megumi Fushiguro takes on a really shallow edge at times, and it’s likely that while he is interested in the boy’s ability, he’s also just out here for a good time, and Megumi is attractive. With this, he seems to derail all of his plans in order to chase after him— so whether it’s a personal interest or an ambitious one, he’s willing to skive off and chase down whatever catches his eye.

4. An enemy of your faction has asked for a meeting, proposing a truce of sorts to deal with a greater threat. On one hand, there is indeed a threat at hand, but on the other, this person double-crossing you is just as likely an outcome. Do you agree to the meeting? Do you trust them?

Sukuna seems to be willing to work with whoever he needs to, in order to meet his own goals. He partners up with Kenjaku (who is definitely going to wind up betraying him) in order to achieve immortality, and he also winds up collaborating with Yuji Itadori from time to time, though in a very self-serving way. Sukuna will do what he has to do, with whoever, in order to make things happen favourably for himself.

He would agree to the meeting, and in this context, I’m sure he’d try to get them drunk or show them a good time in order to get them to open up about their intentions (he’ll be at those hostess clubs constantly i can feel it). The thing is, even if the enemy ends up betraying him, Sukuna would likely never be so foolish as to trust an enemy. He’s lived long enough and has been in a position of power for long enough that he’s a master tactician, so he’d weigh up his options very carefully.

He’s also not blindly aggressive, so he’d approach most situations, particularly when he’s not got his usual power, with the practicality of a leader. He’s capable of handling situations with respect, and will be his kingly, regal self no matter how much he hates the person. He seems to have quite an even keel approach to even things that he finds distasteful.

POWERS & ABILITIES: You may link a wikia or other sort of entry here as reference but we still want, in your own words, a description of your character’s skill set. We expect the upper and lower limits of these skills and abilities, as well as how much they’d be impacted when the character joins the game.

Here's the link to Sukuna's powers' wiki section, which is decently comprehensive, but just to give an overall run-down here:

Sukuna is a master of hand to hand combat; in combination with immense, inhuman strength, this is all he usually tends to need in order to end a fight. This comes with enhanced durability, speed, reflexes etc. He’ll probably keep some of his strength and naturally, his know-how re: techniques, but it’ll be on a human level instead of a cursed spirit level.

The rest of his abilities are his ‘supernatural’ factors; there is an energy system in Jujutsu Kaisen that involves using something called “cursed energy” and “cursed techniques'' — think of it like chi energy that gets focused into specific powers; it’s all inborn to people called sorcerers/curse users, which Sukuna was once, way back in his day (before he made a deal with an ancient entity to become the immortal being that he is today). Even the author’s own grip on the systems seems a little unclear, and random new facts are added in the literal margins of the manga.

Sukuna has a limitless amount of cursed energy, earning him the title of “the king of curses” (he called himself this… he’s not actually a king… he doesn’t own any property and literally has no money but like live your truth king). He’s able to make binding vows (literally those contract things in Harry Potter), and his innate technique involves cutting/slashing. He also makes a bow and arrow out of fire during the Shibuya arc… it’s all over the place. I can't wait to get rid of these things because they’re ridiculous to write (sorry gege but nothing makes sense).

Funnily enough, the kanji for his techniques are the same ones used in cooking terms (ie, filleting and dismantling fish). He’s a foodie….

SUITABILITY: Jigokucho is a game that will have themes of violence, crime, and possibilities of drug and sex related content. Please explain how suitable your character is to an environment like this, especially if they are not an adult. This section is important, so please go into as much detail as you need.

Jigokucho is probably the perfect environment for Sukuna, so much so that he could very well even fit into the NPC cast... (he'll probably try to strike up a conversation or recruit them to cook for him if given half the chance), he will be peripherally aware of what Jigoku is, having had association with curses and the occult from a relatively young age (the line between the youkai realm/underworld and the human realm was thin during his time as a sorcerer; youkai/curses used to walk the earth quite visibly— Jujutsu Kaisen actually takes on board a lot of traditional Japanese mythological lore, similar to that of the game, so it will align nicely with Sukuna's own knowledge of the supernatural, and he won't be in any kind of shock or thrown for a loop with his entrance into Jigoku; he'll probably be thrilled about it, actually).

On a more shallow level, he has the right look, for the place, even (see the description up above!).

With regard to the drug/sex/violence/crime nature of the game, this is very much Sukuna's ballgame. He's extremely old, and has the 'been there, done that, would love to do it again' approach (he's been cooped up in his 'domain'—a mental space/realm created by sorcerers within their own consciousness— for centuries, so he's probably just dying to get out and be a complete fiend and spend ridiculous amounts of money at host/hostess clubs, and proposition every oiran youkai that crosses his path for a mile).

He has absolutely no morals; this is partly due to his own character, but also partly due to not fitting into the moral structures of the present day. He's essentially an ancient conqueror who was feared and respected, who has been dropped into the modern world (and is loving life there... going absolutely feral). I can absolutely see him taking great pleasure in the world of Jigokucho, because it will be familiar to him. He's going to be right at home hanging out with everyone in the red light/pleasure district, and he'll probably provide far too much entertainment just due to the fact he'll be chomping at the bit to get involved everywhere.

FACTION SUITABILITY: We would like for you to make a case for how your character would fit in for all four factions in the game. Again, players cannot choose the faction. No matter what faction the mods assign your character, the reward they are offered in their contract is up to the player to decide. Focus less on what the faction is offering and more what your character would be able to do for each faction and how well they’d fit in with the faction’s culture and goals.

The Shuten Clan

Originally, Sukuna was a general/leader, and this comes out in his manner— he's able to break someone down, but he is equally able to build them up (we see this with how he criticises a curse, Jogo— but he brings him to tears when he tells him to "stand proud", recognising an innate strength in him, despite the fact that they were fighting each other). His violence as well as his restraint are extremely reminiscent of old fashioned yakuza leaders (though I'd put him more in line with Bosozoku systems of power instead of the more traditional Yakuza ones; he's willing to do what needs to be done in order to take control; his reign during the Heian era was characterised by terror and violence according to canon).

There would appear at first to be no sense of justice or order to him, but he is extremely focused on tactics and also has an extraordinary capacity for patience. Sukuna is the type to bide his time, watch, and wait, and then strike. His imperious attitude and commanding air (he commands everyone to bow before him, he's forever sitting on a massive throne in his domain), but also his warmth and patience, particularly with people weaker than himself, would probably see him fitting in well with the oni of the Shuten clan.

I can see a mutual respect cropping up between himself and Toraguma there, though he won't like the idea of someone else having any kind of control over him, and this might end up causing problems. Fortunately, he isn't the brash youngster he was back in Heian, and the creator of JJK has said a few times that Sukuna is very, very used to having to control himself and be patient. He'd rather bide his time and see things through; he's a big fan of the path of least resistance, so this would help his case in the Shuten clan.

Canonically he is extremely overpowered, so there's no real threat to him (and he's not out for any particular revenge that we've seen so far re: the sorcerers that imprisoned him, he's more interested in chasing after a pretty teenager lmao), but when Gojo challenges him to a fight, he reacts with gusto— he's hot-headed, and gets angry quickly when goaded, so this could cause problems for him, particularly due to the fact that he won't have access to any of his powers that he has in canon— this won't stop him from being ridiculous, naturally, though it might make him use more trickery to get out of things in one piece. Fortunately for everyone, due to the honourable nature of the Shuten clan, I think he'd be willing to work with them and a mutual respect would keep things calm for everyone.

The Tamamo Clan

He'd fit well into the Tamamo clan, because as it's often said in canon; he's a creature of his own whims and desires— all he cares about are his pleasures and displeasures. He's extremely self-indulgent, does not try to curb himself in anything, and there is a bit of a lascivious streak in the way he talks (this is also helped along by the fact that he's voiced by Suwabe Junichi).

Apparently, he had a thing for consuming human flesh, and his first question, when he took control of Yuji Itadori's body, was "where are the women? Where are the children?" — there's enough left up to the imagination as to what exactly he means by this, but taking his old habits into account, he's either out for a bit of pillaging, or keen to eat them.

He is kind of a libertarian in his own way, though it all has to be on his own terms, and with him as the centre of control— a lot of what we know in fandom about Sukuna has been researched from Heian era texts (he was a real historical figure, despite the mangaka's fictional take on him), and he had a very specific hatred for the emperor and the hold that he had over his village.

He'd get along well with the values of the Tamamo Clan, and I think that he'd take being told what to do by a female youkai a lot more kindly than he would by a male youkai (he's a ladies' man ok). He's going to be extremely interested in Tenko-hime, and while a bit exasperating, he'll probably behave himself around a woman of great strength and cunning. I would even go so far as to say he'd be able to become loyal to someone like that; it also keeps his views of things in their order (women in the realm of the pleasure districts, traditional patriarchal values, ad nauseum; he's like this), so it would not bother him that a woman was his leader, simply because everything is in it's 'right place' (he's still a Heian grandpa at heart here...)

Interestingly, I think he could end up making meaningful connections in this clan because of how he'd approach it as a character with more traditional views (purely by rights of being from such an ancient era); he'd be more willing to lower his guard, and more willing to have conversations rather than command (because to him, the red light districts are 'off duty' time— the public face can be shelved when there).

The Sutoku Alliance

Being pragmatic, Sukuna probably will be able to thrive in any one of the clans. He's capable of curbing himself in order to sniff out what he needs to do to survive (and thrive, and probably cause all kinds of problems for everyone around him), and while he won't have much fun if he's stuck with the ascetic tengu crew, he will find a way to make it work for himself. They do actually align on how they value knowledge; Sukuna likes to act like a teacher from time to time (particularly when it's about something that he's good at... and that he can show off about; ie, when he decides to demonstrate his jujutsu skills in front of a hapless curse in chapters 6 & 7 of the manga), but his indulgent ways would be at odds with how the Sutoku Alliance live.

He probably wouldn't have all that much interest in the tengu themselves; though he'd be very curious about their knowledge, even if he'd be the worst information broker ever (he'd get pushy, then demanding, then cause a scene....fired).

Having once been a commander of a town (we don't know how good he was at this, of course, he did get himself sealed by the major clan families of his day), he'll be keen to stick his nose into the more administrative portions of the clan— having been cooped up for so long, he'll probably be a bit disinterested in the mundane nature of the day to day goings on, but he likes having a hand in just about everything, so he'd probably wind up taking an interest (and making a nuisance of himself because he def doesn't know how this stuff works— he probably still calls money his "great riches" lmao).

The Department of the Enma

Sukuna will be absolutely unmanageable if he’s given the small amount of power of a city official under the department of the Enma. He’ll thrive, probably, and will become a corrupt official as soon as humanly (inhumanly) possible, but at least he’ll be having fun. He’ll take great pleasure in the fact that he is a city ‘official’ in any capacity, and will wield his minor power with the same psychotic joy that he wields his larger, supernatural powers. It will go to his head and he’ll basically enjoy himself ‘roleplaying’ as whatever he gets designated as. Lawyer? He’s here for a law AU… he will be the most cutthroat (and undereducated lmao) lawyer to ever set foot in Jigokucho. Policeman? He will look great in uniform and will also arrest people for even looking at him wrong.

While I feel like he’ll have a great time of it (and of mucking around, basically), because he is the type to do things for a laugh and gallop around in whatever current form he’s in (he makes the best of it at least; even when he’s stuck in Itadori’s body, he still manages to amuse himself in all kinds of psychotic ways, including tormenting the boy from inside his head), he’ll probably get bored of the humdrum nature of the department of Enma, and just wind up spending most of his time in the red light district whining to whichever hostess will listen to him.

However, if he were given enough power within the department, I think this is the one that he personally would end up enjoying the most. Sukuna loves power, and seems to have a distinct need to put himself in positions of power— so to fulfil that specific love of his, he’d have a great time in Enma, despite having to answer to a boss.

Sukuna is interested in order, despite the manga’s characters initially presuming that he wants chaos. He is shown to be extremely rational in his tactics and very feudal in his views of how things need to be, so I don’t think he would have too much of a conflict with the department, if given enough free rein.
